At McMurry University we are excited and fortunate to have a special group of coaches on the Defensive side of the ball. Coach Joe Lee Dunn brings a wealth of experience to the field with his 3-3-5 scheme. Coach Dunn was notorious in the SEC for bringing a confusing and aggressive defense on game day. His efforts at Mississippi State University help put them in the SEC Title game in 1999. We look forward to the same style of play in the American Southwest Conference.

The 3-3-5 Defense, is an off- spring of the old 5-3-3 scheme that originated because of the lack of defensive lineman. Coach Dunn admits “you can usually find linebackers’ and defensive backs’, it’s rare to find defensive lineman that are good enough to win.”

One of Coach Dunn’s favorite calls is “GO”. This is where you are going to have a 2 LB blitz to the tight end side and play man free coverage behind it.
